FAQ
Straight answers about QuickBooks Desktop and managed Windows servers
These are the real reasons setups fail and what Titan Cloud Servers does differently.
Quick answer: This FAQ answers the most common questions about QuickBooks Desktop hosting, Windows Server management, remote access, backups, onboarding, and why some teams stay on Desktop instead of moving to QuickBooks Online.
Titan Cloud Servers is a one stop solution for multi-user QuickBooks Desktop, built on a managed Windows Server environment where remote access, office file sharing, folder permissions, backups, and support work together as one system.
Why not just use QuickBooks Online instead of Desktop?
QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise still wins for many inventory-heavy workflows, tighter control, and performance on dedicated hardware. Titan Cloud Servers focuses on Desktop environments. We do not pretend to “host” QuickBooks Online on our servers.
Why is an RDP server safer than opening a .QBW over a LAN share?
Opening company files over shares increases corruption risk when WiFi drops, permissions are messy, or users hard power-off PCs. With RDP, QuickBooks runs next to the data on the server and clients only stream the desktop session.
What security controls do you use for remote access?
Anti brute force blocking on RDP/management ports, firewall hardening, minimized exposure, and separation of admin access from normal user access. Optional safe zone whitelisting can restrict access to known IPs or regions as a scoped item.
Can you host other apps besides QuickBooks?
Yes. Common examples are Sage desktop apps, Office/Outlook, SQL Server, reporting tools, and line-of-business apps that require Windows. The scope is confirmed during onboarding because app compatibility and resource needs vary.
What happens if the server goes down?
Recovery depends on the hosting model and the backup strategy. We design backups to separate storage and define a restore path. For Titan Cloud Servers hosted and colocation environments, hardware monitoring and availability planning are part of the baseline.
How do backups and restores work?
We typically use a combination of QuickBooks backups and system-level backups (file-level or image-level). Backups go to separate storage. We document the restore steps so recovery is not guesswork during an incident.
What does onboarding look like and how long does it take?
Discovery call, environment design, then deployment/migration. Time depends on users, data size, integrations, and whether you are moving from a messy LAN setup. We prioritize a clean baseline over rushing a fragile build.
Still unsure?
If your QuickBooks Desktop workflow is critical and downtime hurts, the fastest way forward is a short discovery call. We will tell you exactly what needs fixing and what can stay as-is.
